Poet's Quill ... Addressing The Nation

Huh, guess I can use this “tag” for works of fiction in general and not just random moments of poetry (well, there’s only one so far). The story I’m about to write is a speech. A rather dark one. A rather … terrifying one. And what’s even worse, it’s not unrealistic.

Good welcome, citizens of our Chosen Nation,

It is I, your leader, bringing you the news of our road towards the brightest future. The future in which we will thrive. The future we were chosen for. As you may have observed, our efforts are going forward in full swing despite some attempts from the opposition to slow down or stop the inevitable. But we will not be stopped. We will not be deterred. We will not be intimidated by their efforts if they can even be called efforts.

That’s right, I’m talking to you now, dear opposition. I see you, organising, slowing down the process, trying to apply the judicary against our decisions. And I must admit that your efforts are admirable in this regard. It’s as if you’re actually competent at doing things. But here’s the catch. Take a good look who’s in charge. That’s right, we are. We are the administration. We are the ones enforcing the rules, not you. And remember, it was you who agreed to it. This too is your doing. So, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you’re just as complicit. To which we’re grateful.

Of course your efforts don’t just stop here. There are many around the world, which we considered friends. But it seems their friendship was nothing more than a facade. Well, we too can be facetious. We too can show grandiose gestures and promises. But we’re not just going to stop at those. We’re actually following them through. Unlike you, we don’t just stop at words. We take action. And that’s what scares you. That we’re willing to actually follow up on what we promised. It’s shocking, isn’t it?

But back to our place. I’ve already given one thank you to those who oppose us but I have one more to give. And that is to those who disagree with our vision among the citizens. Those who are building their support networks to show that they can do better. You’re indeed free to do so. But have you given a thought to where your resources come from? Remember, you exist, because we allow it. So enjoy your existence while it’s allowed. Because at one point, you will end, because we demand it. We, the Glorious Nation.

Then of course there are those that resorted to petty mockery of our efforts. Yes, that’s right, I’m not blind to your online presence. The rather distasteful products of “art”. To which yet again, I’d like to thank you for making our work easier. By doing this, you show that you don’t really care about opposing us. Why would you? You’d lose your entertainment. What would you do without us? See? You need us. But we don’t need you. Remember that when you’re not around anymore. Also, it’s amusing to see you use the tools you oh so despise against us. If this isn’t peak hypocrisy, I don’t know what is. So, keep going. It’s amusing watching you destroy yourself with such joy.

One more thing before I finish this address. And this one goes to those loyal to me. I’m watching you. And I’m judging your efforts. I can see whether your loyalty to the cause is honest or just a product of fear. Remember, fear clouds judgement and lowers your ability to contribute to the cause. And those who don’t contribute properly will be reprimanded. For we don’t need the mindless. We need the truly dedicated. Others are expendable.

One Vision, One purpose.

There we go. A story from a fictional nation, stifled in tyranny. Or is it really just fiction? I’ll have you decide.
